Some things need uprooting and being double-minded is one of them.

Updated: Apr 24

Often times there are roots and causes of double-mindedness. It requires work to uproot something that has been there a long time. In order to uproot destructive things that war against our evolving into who we have been called to be, it will require intentional pursuit to recognize what has been created in the old patters that war against our new nature in Christ.

Often we set out to do a new thing, with great excitement we may venture to do the thing we feel God has called us to do, only to find that after some time, passion fizzled and inconsistency led to burn out until it becomes forgotten. Or perhaps, the wave of difficulties have become too much and faith that things will change has brought you to lose hope. Perhaps the very place you once had so much faith for is no longer. Double-mindedness is a place that the enemy ploys and creates to draw us to when our eyes linger in the wrong place. When our focus has wavered away from the LORD, our faith does too.

It is crucial to strengthen one's faith in God to overcome double mindedness. In fact, it is so crucial to overcome when we want to walk in the promises of God. James 1:7-8: “But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.”

Lack of faith, uncertainty of God's will, second-guessing, people-pleasing attitudes, and disobedience are factors that contribute to double-mindedness. In order to fulfill our God-given call, we must be single-minded, which is to be single-devoted. If you need support here, may I invite you to listen to this week's episode on my podcast?
